Liverpool’s Sadio Mane celebrates scoring

Liverpool’s African contingent will be eager to build on their strong start to the season when they take on Wifried Zaha’s Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening.
The trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita were particularly impressive for the Reds in a 4-0 win over West Ham United in the opening round of the 2018-19 English Premier League season.
Mane became the first Liverpool payer since John Barnes to score on the opening day of the season for three consecutive seasons. The Senegal international bagged a brace at Anfield and will be hoping to reach another milestone against the Eagles.
The former Southampton attacker has scored five times in eight games against Palace in his career. If he scores tonight he will become the first Reds player to net in three successive league meetings with Palace.
Furthermore, if he were to bag a double in South London he would become only the second player in Liverpool history to net twice in each of the first two games of a season. The first was Ian St John in 1969-70.
Jurgen Klopp could welcome Joel Matip back into his matchday squad for the clash against Palace. The defender hasn’t featured for the club since sustaining a muscle injury during the pre-season match against Boussia Dortmund in July.
“Joel is close to being back,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference on Friday. “Hopefully he is able to be in the squad on Monday, so then we will have him.”
