French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille have rekindled their interest in signing Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to reports in Spain.

According to Sport, OM’s Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta has identified Onana as a long-term replacement for French international and 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Steve Mandanda.

Mandanda picked up an injury in the club’s defeat to Olympique de Nimes this past weekend, prompting OL to reevaluate their options in goal.

Last season’s Europa League runners-up have previously been interested in luring the Cameroon international to the Stade Velodrome, but Ajax are reluctant to sell as they aim to end their Eredivisie title drought.

Onana has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the Netherlands having come through the ranks at Spanish giants Barcelona before his move to Amsterdam. In total, the 22-year-old has played 90 games for the Dutch club, keeping 36 clean sheets.

The shot-stopper will be in action tonight as Ajax set their sights on qualifying for the group stages of the seasons UEFA Champions League. They host Dynamo Kiev in the first-leg qualifier at the Amsterdam Arena tonight.
