Royal Antwerp striker William Owusu Acheampong is ecstatic after receiving his first Ghana senior national team call-up.

The 28-year-old marksman has been named in Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah’s 18-man squad.

The Black Stars of Ghana are scheduled to play face Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier next month.

Owusu spoke to Ghanaian media after receiving his maiden call-up for the Black Stars.

“I don’t know how to express it but I am really glad and delighted about my call-up for the national team,” an elated Owusu told Sports World Ghana.

“It has been a dream for a while. You know it’s the dream of every player to represent the national team so it is such a wonderful welcoming news for me, I am really glad and I thank God.

”I think it’s God’s time, I am just happy to be in the squad and I also thank you all for following my progress over the years.”

Owusu has hit the back of the net once in four Belgian Pro League matches for Antwerp in the new 2018/19 campaign.

Ghana are currently at the top of their qualifying group (Group F) having accumulated three points from one game which was against Ethiopia.

The top two teams from Group F will qualify for the 2019 AFCON finals which will be hosted by Cameroon.
